PCSAT (NO-44), built by the US Naval Academy and launched in 2001, providing a real-time APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System) digipeater used worldwide by amateur radio operators to track vehicle and personal locations via satellite — a functioning, free, space-based GPS-tracking relay that predates most commercial satellite IoT services by nearly two decades.
