Navstar 53 (USA 175), launched in 2004, was the very first satellite of the upgraded GPS Block IIR-M ('Modernized') generation — the version that added a new military-only M-code signal specifically designed to be jam-resistant, plus the L2C civilian signal that, for the first time, let ordinary consumer GPS receivers use two frequencies simultaneously to correct for atmospheric distortion and dramatically sharpen accuracy.
