Russia's first civilian sub-meter Earth observation satellite, Resurs-DK1 could image sharply enough to identify vehicle types. Its capability — originally developed for military intelligence — was made available for commercial use, monitoring Russian natural resources, agriculture, and disaster zones with a resolution previously reserved for government eyes only.
