Germany's first dedicated military communications satellite, operated by the Bundeswehr. COMSATBw-1 provides UHF and SHF connectivity for German armed forces — marking Germany's transition from reliance on US and NATO infrastructure to sovereign military space communications. It supports German deployments in Afghanistan, Mali, and other operational areas where assured communications independent of allied networks is strategically important.
