One of Globalstar's 24 second-generation satellites, launched in the early 2010s to modernize a network originally built for satellite phones and asset tracking. A decade later, this same constellation would be reserved almost entirely — 85% of its capacity — for Apple's Emergency SOS service, redirecting a legacy satellite phone business toward consumer smartphone safety features nobody anticipated when these satellites launched.
