FASTSAT-HSV01 (USA 220), a NASA-Air Force microsatellite about the size of a small refrigerator, launched in November 2010 to host six independent science and technology experiments on a single modular platform — a 'satellite bus' concept designed to prove that multiple unrelated experiments could share one spacecraft economically. FASTSAT's most famous cargo was NanoSail-D, a tiny CubeSat it carried and later ejected, which went on to successfully deploy one of the first solar sails ever unfurled in low Earth orbit — a thin reflective membrane that used sunlight pressure itself as a source of thrust.
