GSAT0102 (Galileo-FM2), launched alongside GSAT0101 in October 2011, is the second satellite of the European Galileo system — together the pair formed the In-Orbit Validation phase that proved the Galileo concept actually worked before Europe committed to building the full 30-satellite operational constellation. Galileo now provides civilian positioning accuracy better than 1 meter for capable receivers, genuinely more precise than the standard civilian GPS signal for equivalent hardware.
