The third Luch-5 satellite, completing a basic Russian data relay constellation. Luch-5V provides communications coverage for the Russian sector of the polar regions — an area of particular importance as Russia expands its Arctic military and commercial presence. It also supports communications for Russian scientific satellites studying the atmosphere, climate, and space environment.
