QB50p1, a precursor CubeSat for the international QB50 project — a coordinated network of 50 small satellites from universities across 23 countries designed to study the largely unexplored lower thermosphere, the atmospheric layer between 125 and 235 miles altitude that's too low for most satellites and too high for weather balloons.
