The first of China's Tongxin Jishu Shiyan ('Communication Technology Test') satellite series — officially experimental communication spacecraft but assessed by independent analysts as military communication satellites. TJS-1 established the series in 2015 and demonstrated China's ability to rapidly develop and field new military GEO capabilities. Its exact mission remains undisclosed, but the series has grown rapidly, suggesting operational rather than purely experimental purposes.
