A satellite co-hosting payloads for Asia Broadcast Satellite and Mongolia's first national communications satellite — an unlikely partnership that gave one of the world's least densely populated nations its own space presence. Mongolia, the world's most sparsely populated country with vast distances between nomadic communities, depends on satellite for communications infrastructure that no terrestrial network can economically provide across the Gobi Desert and northern steppes. MongoSat-1's portion brings television and broadband to Mongolian herder communities.
