Part of the Iridium NEXT constellation, hosting the Aireon payload that gives air traffic controllers real-time radar-equivalent surveillance of aircraft over oceans, polar regions, and remote areas where ground-based radar has never existed. Aireon has fundamentally changed oceanic air traffic management, allowing tighter aircraft spacing over the Atlantic and Pacific that previously required wide separation due to limited surveillance.
