LEMUR-2-Andis, one of Spire Global's LEMUR-2 constellation satellites — compact 3U CubeSats carrying an AIS receiver tracking ship transponder signals across open ocean where no coastal station could ever pick them up. Spire's tradition of giving individual satellites human first-and-last names, rather than sequential numbers, makes its constellation of hundreds feel oddly personal for a fleet this size.
