PAZ, a Spanish military reconnaissance satellite that flies in nearly the exact same orbital plane as Germany's civilian TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X satellites — close enough that the three spacecraft can, in principle, coordinate observations as an informal formation. Built on TerraSAR-X's proven design, PAZ delivers 1-meter resolution radar imagery for the Spanish Ministry of Defence's intelligence needs, while a portion of its capacity is sold commercially through Hisdesat for civilian mapping and disaster response.
