GSAT0222 (Galileo 26), part of the July 2018 quadruple Galileo launch, contributed to a constellation nearing its planned full strength. Europe's investment in Galileo — reportedly over €10 billion across the program's full lifecycle — reflects a deliberate judgment that satellite navigation sovereignty is worth a genuinely massive continental infrastructure commitment. Europe's roughly €10 billion total investment in Galileo, spread across satellites, ground infrastructure, and decades of development, remains one of the most expensive pieces of civilian space infrastructure any government or bloc has ever built from scratch.
