ZY-1 02D carries an instrument almost no other Earth observation satellite bothers with: a hyperspectral imager splitting light into 166 separate bands, fine enough to distinguish specific mineral deposits, crop diseases, and pollutant signatures invisible to the standard cameras every other imaging satellite relies on. China uses it to hunt for mineral resources across its own territory — literally prospecting from orbit.
