Russia's revolutionary Arctic weather satellite in a highly elliptical Molniya orbit — spending most of its time over Russia's north rather than flying over the equator like geostationary satellites. Geostationary birds see the Arctic from a shallow angle; Arktika-M looks straight down, providing the first geostationary-equivalent weather imagery of the North Pole.
