One of China's Tianmu commercial weather satellites using GPS radio occultation to probe the atmosphere. Each GPS signal bent through the atmosphere becomes a precise temperature and humidity profile — a cosmic thermometer with no cloud cover limitation. The constellation's goal: atmospheric profiles every 90 minutes globally, ten times more frequent than any existing system.
