BB4, part of the US Space Development Agency's Tranche 0 demonstration constellation launched September 2023 — the same 27-satellite proof-of-concept deployment that established the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture's core design: dozens of small, cheap, mesh-networked satellites in low Earth orbit rather than a handful of large, expensive, easily-targeted ones. Tranche 0 validated laser inter-satellite communication and rapid data relay concepts that now underpin the much larger Tranche 1, 2, and 3 constellations following it.
