Across its three deployment batches — 9, then 6, then 3 satellites — the Yaogan-43 program appears to have run a genuine design experiment before settling, in its final iteration, on the same triangulation-friendly three-satellite formation that has proven durable across nearly every other Chinese naval surveillance satellite family.
