Europe's next-generation polar weather satellite begins the transition to the most advanced operational weather observing system ever. Its Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer-Next Generation measures atmospheric temperature and humidity in 16,000 spectral channels — detecting molecular absorption signatures that reveal weather patterns before they develop into storms.
