Brazil's first domestically built satellite, SCD-1 relays environmental data from thousands of automatic stations across the Amazon basin — river level sensors, weather gauges, and oceanographic buoys in places no cable can reach. Still operational decades after a 1993 launch, it proved Brazil could build its own spacecraft and became the foundation of the entire Brazilian space program.
