The second MILSTAR Block II satellite, offering dramatically higher data rates than Block I while retaining the same nuclear survivability. Block II added a medium data rate channel that can support video conferencing, imagery transfer, and tactical data links for battlefield commanders — not just the minimal nuclear command traffic of Block I. MILSTAR-2 turned a nuclear communications system into a full military communications architecture.
