The companion satellite to SJ-6 02A, the pair operate together to measure how the orbital radiation environment varies across different positions in low Earth orbit. By flying two instruments in formation, Chinese scientists can distinguish between spatial variations and time variations in particle flux — separating what changed from where it changed. Part of a sustained Chinese effort to understand the hazards facing their space assets.
