China's ocean color monitoring satellite maps chlorophyll and water temperature across the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Ocean color indicates phytoplankton — the base of the marine food chain and responsible for half of Earth's oxygen production. HY-1B built the dataset that first quantified large-scale changes in Chinese coastal waters linked to pollution and warming.
