China's first ocean dynamics satellite measures sea surface height, wind, temperature, and wave height simultaneously. These parameters describe how the ocean stores and redistributes solar heat — ultimately driving the weather patterns affecting every person on Earth. HY-2A built the baseline for China's growing ocean science program.
