The second COSMO-SkyMed SAR satellite doubled Italy's radar coverage and cut Mediterranean revisit time to a few hours. When activated during the 2011 Libyan conflict, it provided European governments daily imagery of military movements — demonstrating how dual-use Earth observation permanently changed conflict monitoring from space.
