The first commercial satellite offering 8-band multispectral imagery at 50 cm resolution made it possible to distinguish subtle differences in vegetation health, water quality, and soil type invisible to previous satellites. Its coastal blue band penetrates shallow water for coral reef mapping — used by NOAA and marine conservationists worldwide.
