Second satellite of the pioneering Yaogan-9 triplet, part of China's first operational demonstration of satellite-based naval signals triangulation. The techniques proven by this formation directly informed the design of every subsequent Yaogan ELINT triplet generation — Yaogan-16, 17, 20, 25, and 30 — that followed over the next decade.
