Cosmos 2477, launched in 2011, is part of the GLONASS-M satellite class that finally restored the constellation to full global strength after two decades of post-Soviet struggle. GLONASS-M satellites carry an improved design life of seven years over the original three-year GLONASS spacecraft — a durability upgrade essential to keeping the rebuilt constellation from immediately beginning to decay again after its hard-won recovery.
