One of the Gonets-M constellation satellites, relaying low-bandwidth data messages across Russia's 11 time zones. The system succeeded the earlier Gonets-D1 satellites and provides Russia with a sovereign messaging network for scientific expeditions, remote industrial sites, and Arctic shipping operations that cannot depend on any foreign satellite messaging system.
