Part of Russia's sovereign satellite messaging constellation, Gonets-M satellites like this one relay short data bursts from remote sensors and tracking devices back to ground stations — functionally similar to ORBCOMM's American network, but built and operated entirely within Russia's domestic space industry to avoid dependence on any foreign satellite communications provider.
