A high-powered Ku-band Chinese communications satellite supporting direct-to-home broadcasting and broadband services across China. Zhongxing-11 was part of China's effort to modernize its commercial satellite fleet with higher-power satellites capable of supporting smaller consumer dish sizes — making satellite TV and internet more accessible in rural areas where infrastructure investment is economically difficult.
