One of SES's original O3B ('Other 3 Billion') satellites, named for the roughly three billion people worldwide who lacked reliable internet access when the constellation launched in 2013. Unlike traditional broadband satellites in geostationary orbit 22,000 miles up, O3B satellites orbit in a unique medium-Earth orbit just 5,000 miles above the equator — close enough to deliver fiber-like latency around 150 milliseconds, versus the 600+ millisecond delay inherent to GEO satellite internet.
