Flying in the MMS tetrahedron formation, MMS-2 contributes its set of electric field, particle, and magnetic field instruments to the joint measurement. When all four MMS spacecraft enter a reconnection zone simultaneously, each captures slightly different measurements that together reconstruct the full three-dimensional structure of a process happening faster than any previous mission could observe. MMS has clocked reconnection events occurring in less than a second.
