A uniquely paired satellite jointly operated by Turkmenistan and Monaco — a Central Asian dictatorship and a Mediterranean microstate sharing a spacecraft. The TurkmenAlem portion gives Turkmenistan sovereign satellite communications for one of the world's most isolated states, where the government controls all media and depends on satellite to reach communities across the Karakum Desert. The Monaco portion provides communications for Europe's smallest principality, reflecting Monaco's characteristic strategy of leveraging global partnerships to project influence far beyond its 0.8 square miles of territory.
