DirecTV's most advanced satellite, providing enhanced Ku-band capacity at 101°W with 4K Ultra HD capability. DirecTV-15 arrived as AT&T was completing its $67 billion acquisition of DirecTV, making it the last DirecTV satellite launched under independence. It provided the channel expansion capacity needed for DirecTV's continuing transition from HD to 4K broadcasting — a generational video quality upgrade that DirecTV positioned as its competitive advantage against cable's slower 4K rollout.
