Brazil's first dedicated military communications satellite — the Geostationary Defense and Strategic Communications Satellite. SGDC provides encrypted X-band military communications for the Brazilian armed forces and Ka-band broadband internet for Brazil's national broadband connectivity program. Brazil combined military and civilian missions to reduce costs while achieving defense requirements for sovereign communications independent of commercial providers.
