One of the largest satellites ever launched by China — over 8 metric tons — Shijian-20 tested high-power electric propulsion, laser communications, and other technologies intended for China's next generation of large geostationary satellites. Its massive solar arrays and advanced propulsion system demonstrated technologies China plans to incorporate into future military and commercial GEO platforms requiring high power and orbital flexibility.
