LuoJia-1 01, China's first dedicated 'smart city' satellite, built by Wuhan University specifically to detect and map nighttime lighting with far greater precision than general-purpose Earth observation satellites — data used to study urbanization patterns, economic activity, and even light pollution across Chinese cities. Named after an ancient poetic name for the hill where Wuhan University stands.
