GOSAT-2 (Ibuki-2), Japan's second greenhouse gas monitoring satellite, launched in 2018 to continue and improve on the original GOSAT's pioneering measurements of global carbon dioxide and methane. GOSAT-2 added the ability to distinguish human-caused emissions from natural sources with greater confidence — directly supporting international efforts to verify whether countries are actually meeting their climate commitments, not just claiming to.
