RISAT-2B, an Indian military radar reconnaissance satellite launched in 2019, using a distinctive 3.6-meter unfurlable mesh antenna to deliver all-weather, day-and-night imagery for the Indian armed forces. Unlike optical satellites blinded by monsoon cloud cover across much of India and its border regions, RISAT-2B's X-band radar sees straight through it — a capability India considers strategically essential given the persistent cloud cover along its Himalayan frontiers.
