Russia's most advanced commercial communications satellite, featuring a high-throughput Ka-band payload providing broadband internet across Russia. Yamal-601 addressed Russia's strategic goal of reducing dependence on foreign satellite capacity — much of Russia's broadband satellite internet had previously been sourced through foreign commercial operators. It represents Russia's commitment to domestic communications sovereignty alongside its military space programs.
