South Korea's ocean and environment monitoring satellite — the companion to GEO-KOMPSAT-2A's meteorological mission. Where 2A focuses on weather, GEO-KOMPSAT-2B carries the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI-2) that monitors ocean color, chlorophyll concentration, harmful algae blooms, and air quality across East Asia. Together the pair form Asia's most comprehensive operational geostationary Earth observation system, with Korea the only Asian nation besides Japan to operate both weather and ocean color sensors from geostationary orbit.
