Skykraft-1, the lead satellite in an Australian company's plan to solve a genuinely overlooked aviation problem: most of the world's oceans and remote airspace have no radar coverage at all, forcing air traffic controllers to rely on wide, conservative safety buffers between aircraft. Skykraft's satellites carry ADS-B receivers and VHF radios specifically to bring real-time air traffic surveillance to airspace that has never had it, potentially letting airlines fly more direct, fuel-efficient routes over oceans.
