China's first precipitation-focused polar satellite carries a dual-frequency precipitation radar — the first such instrument on any Chinese spacecraft. Combined with a microwave imager, it measures rainfall rates and raindrop size distribution globally, transforming China's typhoon rainfall tracking and its contribution to international precipitation monitoring.
