Polytech Universe-5 is one of the university CubeSats deployed as part of Russia's large November 4, 2024 rideshare mission from Vostochny — COSPAR 2024-199 — a launch that carried dozens of small satellites from institutions across the country alongside the primary Ionosfera-M scientific payloads. Built by St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU), Polytech Universe-5 is understood to carry an AIS ship-tracking and IoT payload, part of a small series of student-developed satellites from the same university flying on this mission. Like much of the surrounding rideshare batch, it represents hands-on satellite-engineering training for Russian university students rather than an operational commercial or military system.
