BASIL, a small satellite deployed from a large 2025 rideshare mission carrying dozens of compact payloads simultaneously to orbit. The rideshare model — sharing a single rocket's excess payload capacity among many small, independent missions — has become the dominant way research institutions and early-stage space companies now reach orbit at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated launch.
