Second satellite of the third Yaogan-40 triplet, part of China's continuing investment in globally-capable naval surveillance from polar orbit. As the PLA Navy's operational footprint has expanded into the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and the South Atlantic, Yaogan-40's worldwide coverage has become increasingly relevant to supporting Chinese naval deployments far beyond the traditional Western Pacific theater.
