ItamSat (IO-26), an Italian amateur radio satellite built largely by university students and launched in 1993, carrying a digital store-and-forward payload that let ham operators worldwide relay short messages through it — part of a wave of student-built satellites in the early 1990s that proved small teams could reach orbit on modest budgets.
